Tired of all the talk of Sony not having any lenses long enough for my needs.

...... one of the biggest reasons why I bought it was so I could use my rather substantial collection of manual focus lenses with it
Agree completely. There's certainly no shortage of lenses for the E-mount. With an appropirate adapter, it will accept almost any lens ever made.

With my A7S I use my old Leica M lenses (35, 50, 90 and 135mm). The exception is the Elmarit-M 21mm which has pronounced luminance and color vignetting on the A7S. It can be handled in Cornerfix, but I like to save that extra PP step. So for the WA end I use a Sony-Zeiss 16-55, but otherwise my old Leica M glass works beautifully and is small and light. My Nikon glass also works very well but is more bulky. A heavy 80-200/2.8 zoom is not a well balanced match with the smallish A7X. But a 200/4 AI-S works fine. I also bought a couple of dirt cheap Russian lenses which also works fine.

Canon FD 500mm f4.5L
Well, it came and seems to be a perfect match for my A7. I couldn't be more happy--and this is my largest lens yet. Might even consider the 800mm f5.6L someday.

Cheers, Seth
What if the hokey pokey really is what it's all about?

Feeling a bit snarky (but the lens performs as the title says)., people know me as the professional I am, and were asking me last night at this high school band concert if a "$300 400mm lens was 'worth it'" I said unless it is a $300 Nikkor 400 f3.5 no! and probably not even if it were. I continued first you might not even be able to use it... they said it was some 5.6 zoom with 400mm. So I said definitely not. When using film cropping was a "last resort" not anymore. (Oh Sony 70-200mm F4 at f4 on Sony a6000)

Anyway, I went about my business and was pretty happy with the 'focus zoom' assuring me of precise focus on whatever student I shot, and in the end the crop I made on the APS sensor of the a6000 turned out being about the equivalent of a 400mm f4 on an Nikon D700. Astounding sharpness, hand held (wedged on knee) at 1/160th of a second wide open. All with the same little system and tiny bag of gear that allowed me to shoot a hasty video of the jazz combo earlier in the evening.

Sony 70-200mm F4 at f4 way too heavy for A6k body

Sony 70-200mm F4 at f4 way too heavy for A6k body
Tell that to the NFL shooter that uses it on a 500mm sony lens.

It works beautifully, I don't use the body to support the lens, either way you hand does all the supporting of any long tele. I works very very well.

M43 was criticized for not having good telephoto options - until they brought them out, 75-300 Olympus, 100-300 Panasonic, and 300mm f4 Olympus. Now m43has the most complete mirrorless lens line, third only to Nikon F and Canon EF in quality and range. Filling out the long end was necessary to get there.
Pentax has more native 300+mm telephoto choices and a better selection than m4/3:
  • DA 55-300mm f4-5.6, DA*300mm f4, D FA 150-450mm f4-5.6, DA 560mm f5.6, and a 1.4X TC.
There are also several Sigma long teles for K-mount, which are not available to m4/3 shooters (70-300, 120-400, 50-500, 150-500, 500mm f4.5, 300mm f2.8), and a Tamron 70-300mm.

Sony A-mount has more 300+mm choices than m4/3 as well.
Remember, m43 300mm is 600mm 35mm equivalent.
Yes, a 300mm f4 mounted on m4/3 is 600mm f8 equivalent, but the lens is still a 300mm f4.

- Mount a 300mm f4 on a K-3 and take a photo.

- Mount a 300mm f4 on an EM-1 and shoot the same scene from the same subject distance, using the same settings

The APS-C image will show more of the scene and the image will have 2/3 stop lower noise.

Crop the APS-C photo to the same dimensions as the m4/3 image.

Both are now 16mp, 600mm FOV, same DOF, same noise, same perspective.

Are you personally attached to Sony Corp such that reading about other's disappointment that Sony doesn't make mirrorless lenses longer than 200mm Focal length?

Are you equally tired to people lamenting the fact that Sony doesn't offer the A7mk2 in pink poka dots?

Why are you personally tired?
