Martin,

Is that a small MeFoto tripod?

Nope. I have a MeFOTO, but the globetrotter, which is larger and heavier than this. That would be my main tripod when I can reach by car to where I go. This tiny beauty is a 3 Legged Thing Punks Rick carbon fiber.

Is simply sweet.

I only have one tripod, It's a Slik aluminum tripod with a pan-head that I got in the mid 1970's and its still in excellent condition because I hardly ever use it. I have this debate raging inside my head all the time about getting a new one. First, I tell myself that if I had a new small and light tripod, like yours, that I would use it a lot more often then the one I have now, but when I start looking at them I tell myself that's a lot of money to spend when I already have a perfectly good one that I don't use.

Well, if light is good, is no point to use a tripod, unless you are looking for a specific effect, like blurring water or motion blur, but when light is not so good, like indoors, your only solution is to start cranking up ISO to maintain a fast enough shutter speed, and mostly shoot wide open. If your lenses are not super fast, things get pretty noisy fast. And no matter how high your ISO, you'll end up with soft images due to camera shake.

I don't say a tripod is useful for every situation. I use it mostly for my interior design photography, but I'm shooting a still subject. Furniture doesn't move, so is perfect for tripod use. I can't imagine using a tripod for street photography, or wildlife or sports. Maybe a monopod might be useful then. And that is one feature I love of both my tripods, you unscrew one leg, and they convert to monopods. And since they are both carbon fiber, is a very light one.

So, ask yourself, what is the photography that you like to do, and I can help you decide if a tripod will be of good use to you or not.

BTW, to the OP, sorry for stealing your thread. We'll open a new one if this gets longer.

Anyone have / seen this bag?

I just ordered a E-M1 that should be here today, and am looking for a bag (preferably a messenger or 'sling'/across-body style) for the camera, a few bits of kit, and a 13.5-15" laptop plus a few papers / magazines for commuting to/from work on the train.

For the shortcomings in the reviews (weight, hardware), it's a bit more than I really want to spend, but it's one of the few that seems to have a sleeve for a 13-15" laptop while still having a bit of a 'box' for the gear as well as being a little stylish. Many similar bags seem to be larger to fit up to 17" laptops.

Does anyone know of a smaller bag similar in size and styling ('vintage ruck sack') to the Domke Metro Messenger that would work well with the EM-1 and a 15" laptop while still being somewhat compact?

Thanks!

Edit - Looking more closely at that Tenba Small Messenger (thanks for the photos, Martin!), I think that's probably what I'll end with. Only $71 on Amazon!

Hi, I just searched for hours on the forum with no luck.

I carry a Macbook Pro 15" daily for work, and would love to find a bag to carry at the same time the laptop, Olympus EM10 plus 3 lenses. Since switched to mirrorless I feel free to take more pictures, I can take the camera everywhere :D

I teach at University and work as architect so the look and finish can be casual.

Thanks in advance and have a great week.
My 40-150mm came with an "Olympus Street Case" which is a nice compact padded bag. I just cut the straps off and throw it in whatever bag I'm using that day. You can get them off Amazon for cheap and they're really well made.
