Hopefully you can keep us updated of your choice! I was kind of disappointed at the lack of reviews for the kit lens. No doubt its a very new lens, but given that it isn't that outstanding on paper, it somehow felt that hardly anyone will review it in the near future. I'm quite sure there will be tonnes of reviews within a month of the release of the 7-14mm pro, but that's another topic altogether.
Hey, thought I would give you an update on the lens situation.
I've had the 14-150 for a few days and even that has been enough to make up my mind, its a keeper. I suppose everyone has a different preferred setup, but for me the combination of a super compact, light, 28-300mm superzoom along with my primes is great. The 14-150 is lighter, and in my mind more responsive (physically) to use than the 12-40. Though maybe I just have weak hands, hahaha.
I actually contemplated keeping the 12-40 and 14-150 as a dynamic duo, do everything setup, but then I had a look through previous photos I had taken with the 25mm and 45mm and just couldn't part with them. The brighter lens really makes a difference in my mind, plus they are tiny and light and inconspicuous for street shooting, family events etc.
So to sum it up I have a weather sealed lens for outside walkabouts and some lovely primes for street shooting, interiors, portraits etc.
Just need the 17mm 1.8 now
(excuse me.. bit of GAS there )
Obviously there will be a hit in optical quality when using the 14-150, but in my mind its acceptable. I've posted some comparisons below with the 25mm, 45mm, and 12-40. They are not the most scientific but should give you a indication of its performance. Remember the 14-150 is fairly wide open in these but the primes and 12-40 are heavily stopped down. So it holds it own quite well.
I forgot to take a corner sharpness comparison with the 12-40 but I'm sure it would be much sharper than the 14-150.
Cheers, and thanks everyone for the discussion on my options.
