Did you put the photo in a folder of the sd card named

\DCIM\100PHOTO ?

If that didn't work, try Ceedjay's suggestion. He is correct that there is an option that resets the file number each time. It is under settings, File Number. If it is currently set to "Reset", you'll need to change it to "Series". Also check your settings for File Name and Folder Type. All these settings are described on page 171 of the (English language) manual.

You're on the right track. I remember doing this successfully on a previous camera but it may have been a Pentax, not a Samsung.

File Number is set to Series, always was. File Name and Folder Type are Standard. But I got it now. I set it to File Number Reset, turned the Camera off and back on, made one Shot which got Number 1, then i copied 2367 in the Folder, set the Camera back to File Number Series, made another Shot which was numbered 2368. All good now.
