I'm a Nikon user but got the SL1 out of curiosity, along with the 10-18, and I must say that for the price, especially used, its a very good camera. I mainly got it for the hybrid CMOS II live view AF and it's night and day better than any live view and video AF from Nikon.

Nice to hear that. How do you like the 10-18?

It's a superb camera for what is is, a small DSLR. Canon's menu system is a lot better than Nikon too, and I really like Canon's JPEG engine too. When it comes to entry level, Canon's bodies are much better than Nikon. The rebel series is more comfortable to hold and more logical to operate than Nikon D3000 xxx and D5000 xxx series. But when it comes to prosumer grade bodies, I much prefer Nikon bodies (D300) to the 7D.

The touch interface on the SL1 is surprisingly useful, especially when shooting video. Hybrid CMOS live view AF is a total game changer on a DSLR. Not quite as fast as dual pixel on the 70D, but still plenty fast.
