I use flash occasionally at high frame rates. Raising the ISO to the point where the IQ is still good, your flash doesn't need to dump much charge on each shot so you can get several shots. It all depends on the size of the area you're trying to illuminate. Doing this in a room with 7 foot ceilings using bounce, I have been able to get 10 shots before you start to see dark frames.

I find this method useful for doing group shots with flash. In our family we have one person who usually blinks at the preflash. Taking 3-4 shots at the maximum frame rate, the blinker has usually recovered by the 3rd or 4th shot. If someone else is a late blinker, you have a sequence at short intervals so the background doesn't change significantly and you can swap heads easily in Photoshop.
