Canon 320ex II, Canon 430exII, Aperlite YH-700C and Aperlite YH-400C
The best thing about Canon T3i (600D) is that it's BUILD IN FLASH comes with a MASTER WIRELESS COMMAND.
This means several advantage:
- You do not need to buy an external Transmitter to wireless control other flashes
- You can wireless trigger multiple flash @same time (3 groups, multiple flash per group)
- you can change external flash balance (wirelessly) without physically change each flash
- Super-Easy to setup* required Canon External Flash menu compatible
Don't buy older Canon Flash that is NOT canon-external flash menu compatible: for example, my original Canon 430ex (1) isn't compatible with the new External Flash menu. While I can still trigger my 430ex (1) as slave flash, I cannot change its flash power ON-THE-FLY-REMOTELY like I can with the newer Canon 430ex II, Canon 320ex II, or even a cheapo Canon 270ex II.
My recommendation (must be compatible with Canon External Flash Menu and Canon HSS):
- Canon 320ex
- Canon 430ex II
- Aperlite YH-700 (true canon external flash menu compatible, and HSS)
- Aperlite YH-400 (just receiver it today, I'll review it soon)
canon 270ex II will work wirelessly, but weak flash power is hard to recommend, really not much better than build-in flash. Canon 600 and 580ex are way expensive, great for PRO but there are much CHEAPER options out there.
Many cheap Younguo can be trigger wirelessly as slaves, but not many model are Canon External Flash menu compatible, so you will need to physically change each external flash power level (just like the original Canon 430ex 1).
I was a big Canon 430ex II fanatic, but for the same price you can buy 2-3 Aperlite YH-700c. I'm very impressed by my Aperlite, so much so, that I sold both of my Canon 430ex 1 and 430ex2. I just receive a Aperlite YH-400c to review. I'll let you know if this flash is also HSS and Canon External Flash menu compatible soon.
