EVF learning curve on GX7

I hope this is the right place to pose these questions and seek advice.

Looking for a camera to replace my well-used(and broken) A200, I am trying out a GX7, having chosen it over the K50. I'll use it to photograph grandchildren, landscapes, family, some wildlife and sports. I'm really drawn to the compactness of MFT, and the GX7 seems a good fit for me...except for one issue.

The EVF is...disconcerting. After about a week with the GX7 and Panasonic 12-32mm lens, using both the evf and touch screen to frame & shoot, I have the sense that, either way, I don't know what I've got when I release the shutter. I also really dislike it in low light. I feel like I fight it. I've gotten good images, but shooting feels uncomfortable.

To add to my dismay, I picked up a friend's new K50. The bright, large OVF and simple display felt clear & right. I had the sense of knowing before shooting. I wanted it...it felt like a friend.

Two maxims that guided my search now conflict me:

"The best camera is the one you have." GX7!

"If it feels right, it IS right." K50!

Questions:

Is this a common problem for older (59) eyes? Does it drive others nuts? Or is this a learning curve issue?

Will time and practice teach me to facilitate and maybe even love the EVF?

i'm really torn. I don't want to curse the EVF every time I use a sweet little camera. I don't want to grow tired of hauling an SLR with a great OVF.

I covet any thoughts...

(It occurred to me that for the price of the GX7 and two lenses, I could own a K50, 2 decent lenses, and pick up a used Pentax Q to throw in a pocket.)
