I don't have a 70D so I can't make that specific comparison. Nor do I have a 400/2.8L IS II. But I do have a 7D Mark II, 300/2.8L IS II, and 100-400L II amongst other things, and I can tell you that the AF is superb. Sometimes I can't believe how good it is.

You have a strange combination of equipment - a stunning, world-class and very, very expensive lens combined with two cheap bodies which totally fail to take advantage of it. How did that happen? Or I suppose what I mean is, what do you want to photograph which took you down that route? That is probably far more relevant to any decision about the 7D II.
