Metabones Speedbooster + Canon 10-18mm?

Hi, I'm looking for an ultra wide angle lens for my GH4 for nice wide angle video of landscapes and travels. There are currently 3 native ultra-wide options: Panasonic 7-14mm, Olympus 7-14mm and Olympus 9-18mm. Now because I'm doing a lot of video work that limits my selection to just the 9-18mm because it's the only one that has a filter thread.

So while that's ok it's also quite slow (f/4-5.6) and also lacks image stabilization on a GH4 body. An alternative I thought of would be to use a speedbooster and Canon 10-18mm lens. Still slow, but well known for it's excellent performance and good IS. 3 questions:

1. Will it physically work?

2. Will the MF work given that it's a focus-by-wire system?

3. What will the 35mm equiv focal length be?

Yes I have seen others use MFT cams with apsc glass. Metabones also states their adapters are designed for use with Canon EF glass.
2. Will the MF work given that it's a focus-by-wire system?
Yes, as long as you get one with electronic connectors. Those will run between $400 and $600, I believe there are 3 models to choose from under Metabones.
3. What will the 35mm equiv focal length be?
Multiply the 10-35mm by 2 and you get a 20-70. Then multiply that by the .71 crop of the metabones and you get a 14-50mm or so. Keep in mind this is just with a 2x crop factor of MFT, I believe the GH4's 4k video is slightly longer.

The 10-18 is an EF-S lens so it only covers the 35-mm equivalent field of a 16mm lens. It probably won't even mount on a speedbooster and if it did, it wouldn't cover m4/3.

You could use an adapter without glass but then you would only have a 10-18.

You may be right about the physical attachment, I haven't actually combined them so I don't know for sure, but the FOV being 16mm is irrelevant. The lens itself, physically, is a 10-18 before any crop factors. That makes it a 14-25 (what did I say on the other post?) on MFT after the speed booster, and a 16-29 on Canon apsc.

EDIT: woops yea I said 14-50mm, it's only a 14-25mm if a speed booster is usable on it. Without a booster it's of course a 20-36mm.

The 16mm field of view is another way of saying that the lens covers a 27mm diagonal (that's a Canon APS-C sensor). Now, micro 4/3 has a 21.6mm diagonal so the 10-18 will cover that quite handily. But if you put a speed booster on it, the diagonal coverage will drop to 27 X 0.71, or 19mm. So I'd expect dark corners at best.
 
I know this is an old post, but I was curious to see if anyone had actually tried this as I too was looking for a good wide angle option that wasn't too expensive. I have the Panasonic 12-35 as well as Canon 16-35 but even with the metabones speed booster I wasn't getting as wide as I wanted. I previously purchased the Canon EF-S 10-18 and modded it to fit my 5dmk2 and while it has some serious vignetting on the full frame I decided to try and mount it to my GH4 through the speed booster. For video in daylight I noticed a little vignetting at 10mm but by 12mm it wasn't noticeable. I'll try an upload a few sample videos to show you but I've attached a photo showing the 10-18 attached to prove it can be done if you mod the lens mount on the 10-18.

I currently have a Canon Kiss X4 and am thinking of buying a Canon D70. It's last years model I know but more affordable, basically hanging out for a 90D with 4k.

I only use it for video and would love to go 4K if I could, and the Panasonic looks very tempting (with 4K my budget increases). I use the Canon 10-18 all the time and would like to know if there is a 2/3 lens that gives me the same width of view (am I saying that correctly?). I can't get my around the maths of 2/3 vs cropped frame vs full frame lenses so be sure of my choice.

My mod of the Canon 10-18mm on a speed booster on the GH4:


Works fine for video (especially 4K) but there is a small amount of vignetting on stills at <11mm

If you're shooting video in 16:9 aspect, you're only using the center 9.3mm of the sensor's 13mm image height, and the diagonal of the 17.3 x 9.73 mm imaging area is only 19.1 mm.

The 26.9 mm nominal diagonal of Canon APS-C sensors (they vary slightly in size from one sensor model to the next) reduced by 0.71X is about 9.84 mm. So at 10mm you'll probably get noticeably dim corners, but as the lens is zoomed out, the image circle projected by the lens will expand enough to eliminate the additional vignetting.
