Great things come in small packages

*disclaimer - just a quick review, no pixelpeeping or facts, more emotional*

I've tried a lot of things to find the joy I had in photography when I was carrying my old Pentax K-1000 and Voigtländer Bessa L. The first digital cam to pretty much nail it was the X100. It quickly became my always carry camera - but there were situations where I wanted to go wider or narrower than the 23mm it offered. I had high hopes for the X-Pro 1, but found it a bit too big to be honest. Than came the X-E2. It combined the size and feel of the X100 with most of  the internal greatness of the X-T1 and gave me access to exchangeable lenses. My Oly has been doing nothing but collecting dust since I bought the X-E2 and is now up for sale.

Pros for my personal taste

- Fuji colors (love it or hate, I love it)

- Ease of use (I'm not fiddling in menus to do what I want anymore)

- Rangefinder style (awesome for portraits, look through the viewfinder and your subject stills sees you and is able to engage with you. and you get closer to your subject as a result - THAT COMES ACROSS. DSLRs get in the way here)

- Lenses (have yet to find one that didn't do what it promised)

- The extras and the design, things like those little cloths the lenses come in, just the attention to detail that makes it all the more enjoyable to carry around and use. Hard to put a finger on what it is exactly really.

- I have to give a shout out for the great panorama feature as well. Not usually a fan of such gimmicks but I find myself astonished by the results this little camera yields here and using it more frequently than I thought.

What can be improved

- Just give it the firmware improvement of the X-T1 and let us have 1/16'000s as well.

- Physical ISO dial. Pretty much the only reason I have to revert to the menu at times

- EVF, still not fully convinced here - but have to admit that especially in lowlight where I prefer manual focusing it is great.

- AF - Fuji, you need to catch up with the competition here

All in all this is the best money I've ever spent (and it wasn't much) on any digital camera. I know some will complain about things like "paint effects" on their RAW files and other things. This camera delivered where I wanted though - it gave me the joy of taking pictures back. I feel in control and the results I see are 100% what I expect.

Remember this is a personal opinion and I'm sure you might see one or two things differently.
Cheers,
Bele
