Yeah, having a camera you like and that suits you is much more important than performance that doesn't make a difference to your images. And don't forget the lenses - the more you spend on the body the less you have to spend on the glass. Having a nice set of lenses that covers 18 to 250mm will be vastly more important to a beginner than pushing the shadows more than 3 steps.
Having said that, most of us would go for the 100D or 700D rather than the 1200D.
Come on like nikon doesn't have good lenses that cover that range.
If the OP needs to save money the D3200 is also a better option then the 1200d. The D3100 is it's equal. If you can still find one these days.
