Re: I like a monopod I can use as a walking stick

I have a Velbon RUP-40, selected because it was inexpensive (under $30 at the time, but it's gone up a little since then) and it had snap locks rather than twist type.

I drilled and tapped the ball from a trackball to mount on the threads and modified a PVC pipe fitting to mount to the camera... So I can use it as a walking stick, then when needed just drop the camera onto it. Or when I want a bit more stability, I leave off my improvised ball head and fix the camera right to the monopod.

Only issue I have with it (as a walking stick) is the joints will slip if I put my full weight on it.

The same idea might be even easier with the Novoflex quick release and a button mount. Just tap a thread in your "ball" and screw the button mount to it and you have a quick exchange "ballhead".
