Are Samsung colors like Leica's?
Apr 24, 2015
I'm a newcomer to Samsung, and have only used the NX500 for a little less than a month. However, one thing that I have liked about the NX500 is the colors. The colors are pleasant but not exactly neutral like Olympus. I have been trying to find a way to describe it, and I'm beginning to wonder if the best way to describe it is "like Leica." First of all, I am fully aware of how preposterous that sounds, comparing Leica with Samsung. Second, I'm absolutely not an expert on Leica and I don't have a Leica to compare (unless you consider the Panasonic LX5 ). But for what it's worth, that's what the colors remind me of, based on my VERY limited experience (with Leica and Samsung).
I found some images that seem to support this. The images are from Steve Huff. In this post , he posted an image from the Leica M and another from the E-M1, both with the same Leica Summilux 50 ASPH lens. Here is the shot he posted from the Leica M: http://i0.wp.com/www.stevehuffphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/leica1.jpg
Here is the shot from the E-M1: http://i2.wp.com/www.stevehuffphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/oly.jpg
In an unrelated article, he posted a picture from the Samsung NX300 (with the kit lens). Here Steve Huff's shot from the NX300: http://i2.wp.com/www.stevehuffphoto.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/debby6.jpg which is the same subject, from the same front view.
Here are the three shots, side by side (NX300, Leica M, E-M1):

Sure, it's not the same light. The composition's also different. And by the way, it's the NX300, not the NX500. With all those caveats, what do you think? Does anyone by chance have with experience with both Leica and Samsung who can confirm or deny this?
