It would be great if someone who knows the details of this series of Oly cams laid out the history here. I, for one, would much appreciate.

I have an overall view in a simple chart at http://homepages.ihug.com.au/~parsog/olyepl1/80-Oly-timeline.html

And maybe a bit more detail re the E-PLx models at http://homepages.ihug.com.au/~parsog/olyepl1/21-epl1-vs-epl2.html

Olympus Japan have history pages on all their cameras but it seems to fizzle out a few years back at 2010, so no help re the currently sold models. http://www.olympus-global.com/en/corc/history/camera/lineup/chronicle/index.html

The E-PL6 is just a slightly more featured E-PL5 and initially was only sold in Japan but now is apparently being dumped in USA. The real jump is to the E-PL7 where the better 3 axis IBIS and 0 second anti-shock are available.

That does not make the E-PL5/6 bad, just makes it so that care needs to be taken when using it to help avoid shock and shake.
