AutoInput looked promising because it also allows the selecting of a screen element by ID name not just co-ordinates. I figured this would work when the screen is off as it targets an actual element that's still running in the background?

If you don't turn the screen on, you will be tapping a black locked screen, with no effect. Maybe try to turn the screen on before calling AutoInput plugin?

Sadly, I can't get this way to work though even with the screen still on. AutoInput's Easy Select wizard is very temperamental for me trying to select and accept the right element.

So frustrating .......

Maybe AutoVoice? It seems to me it is more appropriate. And free,at least for what you want.

This simple little project keeps getting harder. Now I can't get Live View mode in OIShare, only Remote Trigger. Argh.

I am using AutoVoice btw and realize when the screen is off that tapping a blank screen is useless.

If the screen is blank, there's nothing on the screen to tap...

Hence the idea to tap the app's shutter button based on its field Id. But, it seems AutoInput doesn't like certain image based buttons. Small icon style yes, but larger images no.

Using FX Zoom, another camera app, trying to get the shutter button recognised by AutoInput's Easy Select Wizard is nigh on impossible whereas tapping any of the other option icons is an instant recognition with the Input wizard. With 4.4.4 stock camera, AutoInput Select Wizard is extreeeemly difficult to detect tapping any of the icons on the screen.

Tasker let you navigate through the screen buttons with Input>Dpad action.

It fails hugely too with detecting the big remote shutter button in OIShare.

I could wake up the screen first but preference is still for screen off to save power. Less actions and time delay too. However, from something I read about, when the screen goes off, wifi goes off as well meaning connection to the PEN is lost. Even if phone wifi is forceably kept on, I'm not sure OIShare doesn't drop the connection when the screen goes off and loses foreground focus?

This should not be a problem, just tell tasker to WiFi sleep policy = never.
