Double-Crested Cormorant - NX30 - NX 50-200
4

Today I encountered a bird that I always wanted to photograph but this species was always too far away from me.

The bird is the Double-Crested Cormorant.

The bird was at a local lake sunning and cleaning himself on a rock shared with three turtles. He was about 60feet - 20meters away from the shore and me.

I put my 50-300 on my NX30 and shot just Jpeg to be able to use the 2x digital zoom with short burst shooting.

I shot at 1/1000, ISO 400, at f5.6, at full tele (600 mm equivalent with 2x digital zoom) with my NX30 mounted on my ever present monopod.

I made a slide show of my captures which are 50%+ crops of the original image

At the end of the 1 1/2 minute slideshow you will see a short 1080P clip of the bird:

This shoot stretches the limits of the NX30 and the NX50-200, both which enabled me to capture images that I otherwise would not have been able to capture.

And on top of everything, it was a lot of fun.
