I recently bought a Canon T3i refurbished from the factory.

Everything seemed to be working well for the first few hours, but when I turned on my camera at night I noticed a horrible screen-burn that made the screen impossible to view.

I read the manual which says a screen-burn happens if the display is left on too long, but I had ensured the screen was shut and the camera was set to "Off".

I took out the battery and waited overnight and in the morning the screen was fine again. But now I notice that unless I take out the battery each time the camera is "off", I again see a screen-burn.

It seems to me that the camera is not really turning off. And when I flip the switch to "on" again the screen remains blank unless I take out and then reinsert the battery.

Is there a simple solution to this? So far everything is fine as long as I take the battery out when I am not using it, but that is a hassle. I have a one-year warranty but before I sent it to be fixed I was hoping that perhaps there is a quick solution I have not thought of.

that seems odd. sure you operate this correctly (sorry I have to ask). And what do you mean by screen burn? Seems strange that it should be so strong that you can't see anything. Are you sure you are not simply in review mode, looking at taken pictures?

and the screen blank, are you sure it's not the display settings?

having said that, I don't see how an image can burn in, if the camera is off.

what can happen is that the cables (going through the hinge in the movable arm) to the LCD screen could be damaged if the lcd screen has been used a lot. but a simple taking out battery and reinserting it should not easily fix this.   It sounds more like some settings are not right.

you could also try to reset the camera to factory settings (see manual).
