E-M5 MK II High Res Close Up Shots Look Soft

One of the shortcomings of the sensor shift high resolution mode seems to be close up sharpness.

I have tried this type of shot of bark detail several times and most of the time, 100% crops are very soft.

I'm using a tripod with remote release. Of the two examples above, the second is sharper than the first, but I still see softness when zoomed all the way in. These have been down sized for posting to DPR, so they may look sharper than the full resolution.

I don't know if I'm expecting too much or if the true resolution for tight crops is beyond the ability of my monitor.

I wonder if others have similar experiences.
