How or if do JPEG settings affect LCD review?

I often use immediate LCD review to determine sharpness due to focus and/or camera motion.  To do this I click the playback magnification on my E-PL7 up to 14X.  I cannot see any difference in this review whether I shoot in RAW or in the finest JPEG mode.  I did seem to find a difference when using my previously owned GX7, but unfortunately did not study the issue thoroughly when I had it.  If the RAW image has only a crude JPEG embedded, how does the LCD review manage to reveal sharpness so well?
