Re: What to purchase after the G11 ?

Thomas,

I can offer another vote in favor of the G1 X.  I purchased mine a month after the Canon release, at the full retail price.  The large sensor has truly unbelievable low light capability, making ISO 6400 very useable in low light conditions, with very low noise, requiring little to no post processing on those images.  The detail that the large sensor can capture is just unbelievable the first time you see it on a PC monitor - it's just really breath taking, and rather shocking at the same time.  For travel photos, you might not particularly need the low light capability, but you will appreciate the large sensor fine detail abilities of this camera.  One other caveat that has been mentioned many times for this camera.  Because of the large sensor, the G1 X close subjects requires switching to Macro mode.  This becomes second nature after a very short time.  I like many others really appreciate the swivel LCD, and would not really want a camera without one.  This LCD is very bright, in all lighting conditions.  But, for those rare extremely bright conditions, the camera also has a view finder.  The G1 X is an excellent all-purpose camera, well suited for travel photos, but also family photos, and other casual photography.  It can perform very well as a professional photography tool, as many others have mentioned.  I still enjoy my G1 X, like the day I got it.
