A7 + Two Generations of Canon 50's (LTM, FD L)

This is a brief look at two very different Canon standard lenses

1. Canon 50mm f/1.4 LTM Type II

Manufacture ~1963 est

Comprising of six elements in 4 groups the lens is of Planar type design.

2. Canon 50mm f/1.2 L FD (1980-87)

Aspherical Floating-Element lens

A7 + 50L

A7 + 50mm LTM

Canon 50mm f/1.4 LTM Type II

+ Tiny Combination LTM Mount

+ Impressive image quality for a basic design (I have found this lens better at f/1.4 than my copies of FD SCC, Takumar 7 and 8 elements, Minolta MD 50's)

+ Long focus throw makes it easy ( but slower) to nail critical focus

+ Close Focus only 1m ~

Canon 50mm f/1.2 L FD

+ Sublime image quality

+ Ability to shoot in the dark

+ Larger more complicated design

+ Difficult to nail focus at f/1.2 (Either way just a touch and the purple fringe engulfs)

Sample Photos + Test Shots to follow

Sony a7
