As always Paul's pictures are a pleasure to see. How's paul doing; he hasn't posted here in a while?

no offence to paul pope, and this is my own personal oppinion so no flaming please.

in my humble oppinion paul´s pictures are mostly built upon the fact that the model i good-looking, not much "photography in it to see". they are well exposed etc. but imho they are not photographs for photography discussion.

Thanks for your comment Gillis, but I humbly disgree. I believe Paul achieved his objective, because his objective is to make the girls look as attractive as possible, and for the focus to be on the beauty of the subject. Just because you have an attractive subject, does not mean it's easy to make an attractive image of her. There are nuances of lighting, DOF, background etc. that makes the photograph. The smallest details can blow an image.

I guess a lot depends on the background. Personally I had to an opportunity to photograph some really great looking professional cheerleaders in a swimsuit/glamour session. There was a whole different set of concerns from a photographic standpoint that I had to concern myself with. It's not easy.

So if what it takes to make these types of images is not pf "photographic interest" I'm not sure what is.

Just what I was about to say. A professional photographer should always look at the backgrounds and think about compositions, look and feel much more. Pope's work has always same scale, aperture, angle, height, framing, lighting and same nonchalant background usage. Each girl and session looks similar. Camera just stores them as objects and does not flatter them and flirt with them or make them personal.

Maybe I'm not in position to evaluate them as I don't do that kind of work, but there MUST be more in glamour photography that just storing nice figures.

I KNOW he can do much better than this, why won't he?

That's my opinion.

by anyone will be considered an act of treachery. And such said person shall be hunted down and will be made to watch Charlie's Angels 2: Full Throttle a thousand times, thus rendering his eyes useless, but the objective lesson of distiguishing between hot chicks and not hot chicks will be taught. Lucy Liu is cross-eyed and sickly looking. Carmen Diaz looks like a hag. And Drew Barrymore has to be guy in drag. Pretty sure of it.

Thanks...there was a database repair being run...hopre it's fine now.

Funny guy...my sentiments exactly...Except I disagree with your Carmen Diaz analysis.

Once again though, no offense, but the pics really just rely on the model. I'm not saying that they are akin to Sears Portrait Studio, but its kind of similar don't you guys think?

I mean if Paul is as good a photographer as everyone thinks, then he should challenge himself more. He's done his tried, tested and true approach countless times and its getting old. I'm sure that if these girls are looking for shots for their portfolio then of course they all have to have similar pics, but its getting kind of old and boring to showcase these types of pics off as good artistic work.

Although we will really never tire of pictures of half naked attractive girls, I tend to agree with the previous posts.

When anybody has success (and didn't PP say he made $2million licensing this type of work) in a field they often will stick to what works. Why change the style, lighting or look of the work as long as it still works (sells)? At least he has a style, which is more than a lot of people have.

Take a look at Playboy, Fortune or Car ansd Driver, they all have a formula , they use what works.

I am as guilty as anybody else for doing the the same shot over and over, although I prefer to call it a style...

No question the thumbnail generation off of the main site needs work. The generation out of the Members Photo Gallery is much better.

There are a few different ways you can generate thumnails automatically. The system for the Members Gallery has the best server side thumbnail generator that I have found. The script that is on the front page does not use that format...I am going to make some adjustments in the near future to incorporate a better thumbnail generator for that section.

I agree with Gillis and the other critics about this particular gallery.

The backgrounds on the first page are pretty awful; some on the second page are overexposed (maybe that's deliberate?). With a black background, there are blown highlights on the models themselves. With the sea as the background, the horizon isn't level in most of the pics. My Mum had this last problem with her holiday pics - it can be tricky to hold a camera level.

But at least the models are pretty.
