Quick background. Started with an OM-D E-M5 (mark i), then side graded to the E-P5 because of the better viewfinder and wifi and the ability to go small if needed. Then I decided to purchase the GX7 over the holidays because of the really good price. Couldn't justify having 2 rangefinders to sold the E-P5 and pretty much a wash.
I was fine with the GX7 (and an X-E2 that I have as well), but then I got really frustrated with sports/action photography (especially indoors) with the kids. Decided to jump on the E-M1 and 40-150 after seeing and hearing about the 3.0 firmware update.
Finally got a chance to take some sample action shots with the kids and I told the soccer player to have at it. He went pretty much full speed and held down the shutter release at 9FPS and C-AF per your guys' instructions and the only OOF shots were the ones where the minimum focus distance was exceeded.
I am curious as to why people think the E-M1 is large. I used to equip the E-M5 with the accessory grip 90% of the time, so my opinion may be biased, but it's actually not as tall as the E-M5 with the grip. I was even able to fit it in my pocket with the 20mm pancake. The 40-150 is a large lens, but it fits in a lens bag that would normally be used for a 24-70 ff 2.8 type lens.
I am very comfortable around the Olympus menu system now. The only strange learning-curve on the E-M1 was the lack of live view unless you press the display button. Makes sense and you can even save some battery I would imagine. The camera has a lot of little improvements that really make the shooting experience nice.
Looking forward to using it more and getting comfortable with it. I'm even impressed with the video (although not quite as nice as the GX7).
