Tried a t3i, noise question

Hi all.  I finally had a chance to try out a canon DSLR.  I used my daughter's t3i.  I had the iso set to 100 and shot in RAW.  I put it through it's paces in Av and Tv modes and then put it in P.

My concern is the apparent noise in the shed doors.  I checked the dark colored areas in a variety of shots and found that blacks and dark blues showed noise when in the light shadows but showed none when brightly lit.  I do not think that these doors are in a very "dark" shadow areas.

Am I really expecting too much from the t3i sensor or am I doing something technically wrong?

Yes Cathy, "There really is a Pink-footed goose, and I have the pictures to prove it." As told to my boss after she had seen "The Big Year"
