Re: Help: I love M43 but on the edge
if you were to get FF gear you shiuld keep your m4/3 gear. they compliment each other well. it should not be a case of either/or.
I don't shoot birds so i will leave that to other people but I DO shoot events. obvious in day light events and indoors where it is adequately lit, IQ is not a problem. it works well here.
in low light events like a dark pub/disco environment, cameras as far back as the em5 mk 1 and nex 7 generation was able to effectively handle it. IQ should not be an issue. what you'll likely run into more than anything is, will your camera focus well enough in such diminished light situations.
and having shot in same situations with dslrs and my em1 (my main event camera), you're just not going to get any better unless you move onto a 1DX range of camera. or at the very least, you will be hard pressed at that price range to get similar performance to an em1 with a 12-40 pro.
and here's the other thing; at the same point where light drops enough to be a problem, on both systems, you WILL need to pull out the flash unit.
i have done my own research. eventually i will get a FF camera but the reality is, any camera that will be an immediate upgrade is actually in another price bracket altogether. and it isn't a small gap. i had a go at trying to get my hands on a used 1dx and even a d4 and the used prices were still higher than the em1. so at this point i just can't justify it. for me to justify such cost, i would need to drop my design work and focus exclusively on photography earnings (which has a better return per hour for me). in short, my earnings from photography must exceed the cost of the equipment. at the moment it does not and my revenue is split 50/50 for design/photography. well, right at this moment it is split 70% design work 30% photography work.
