I'll "third" that advice, but consider what you want: you mention birding. Have you looked at the prices of FF lenses that will reach far enough to get bird shots? Your budget won't get you far.

Just to give you a little perspective, I sold all my FF gear (except my Leica) a few months after getting the E-M10. The truth is that I was getting better IQ from my MFT gear than from my D700 and all the pro zooms. The only area where FF beats MFT is in the bokeh dept IMHO. But if you're shooting from afar, you won't see much of a difference, especially if you plan on shooting sports.  The extra reach from a smaller sensor can be an advantage.

But by all means, rent some FF gear. You may prefer it over MFT, but don't make the switch without at least trying out some FF gear. You may be severely disappointed.
