Tamaron 90mm 1:2.5 Macro on XE1 pictures and some macro questions?
Mar 1, 2015
Hi all, I'm totally new to the idea of macro photography. I have been wanting to give it a try but the 60mm Fuji lens seemed a little less than ideal for what I am wanting to do. I figured I would give this a try without spending too much money and manual focus and aperture seem like the way to go at this range anyways. I found a Tamaron 90mm 1:2.5 adaptall lens model 52bb in good condition and for a good price. After getting the Fotodiox Fuji adaptall adapter I have about $125.00 in this kit. So far I have been very happy with the results. All of these shots are shot from hand, though I can definitely see where a tripod would pay off.
For the questions.
While I really like the FOV of the 90 mm I would still like to get something that is in the 1:1 area or even more. Has anyone tried using the B&H x10 diopter on a similar lens?
I am also considering the VENUS (LAOWA) 60mm f/2.8 Ultra-Macro Lens. Looks like you can get one with a Fuji X adapter, or I might just get the Nikon and have a Nikon adapter so I can use some legacy Nikon glass. Torn though as the lens is just shy of $400 and that is money I am wanting to put towards the Fuji 14mm. Does anyone have this Venus lens? Seems to get good reviews. I can't link to the peta pixel review.
For the pictures, it was a cold winter day so finding subjects at least live ones proved difficult. Very pleased with the lens. Focusing can be a bit of a challenge at f 2.5 as the DOF is very shallow, maybe not razor thin but not far from it. Also wish the XE1 had split image focusing instead of just the peaking.
Would putting the camera in macro mode help? What exactly does that do?
