Re 40-150 f2.8 PRO-- how many find the 80mm end as useful as the long end?

Before getting my 40-150 f2.8 I hemmed and hawed a lot prior to purchase-- mainly because of size and weight.  But having had the Pana 35-100, which was often much too short, I sold it to get the Oly 40-150, and I got it w/o the 1.4 TC.

Well, what is surprising as I use the 40-150 f2.8 more and more, I'm coming to really like and appreciate the 80mm (FF) focal length easily as much as the long end-- though I use the full range of the lens.  I do a great deal of seascape/marine photography and I'm finding the short end is very, very useful-- and I like it.  I would also note that this lens is extremely sharp throughout but it really shows up at the short end.

I've said previously that the Oly 60mm macro is the sharpest lens I've ever owned (and I've owned lots)  and that's still true when used close up, but at further and more typical shooting distances I really think the 40-150 is even sharper, and not only that, while my 12-40 is very sharp, I think the 40-150 f2.8 may actually edge it out in sharpness-- though not really possible to compare directly.

I don't know that posting examples re sharpness would help.  What do others think about the short end of the 40-150 PRO?  and why don't I feel much need for the 1.4 TC?  I shoot commercial fishing boats and large ships coming and going and have found that 300mm (equivalent) is usually plenty for my needs.

Just Musing on a rainy afternoon.
