I'm looking at off camera flash options (I have a 430ex II) and from what I found it looks like the 6D does not have it. is that right? the 7d has that functionality and does not require extra hardware.

any thought on this?

No the 6D doesn't have any native wireless flash control with the 430ex II or any flash for that matter but you can get a wireless flash module that slides on to the hotshoe and has a hotshoe for the flash to slide into. There are lots of them but I use the Hahnel Tuff TTL and I love it. It's around $150 and you get a rugged and compact package with full TTL control and a sync mode switch button. You can get a cheaper version as well if you forgo the TTL capabilities.
