This whole conversation was about the gimmick of weather sealing feature on a camera. Which has been proven not a gimmick. It actually works. Why want to water test a non weather sealed device? Its like throwing a car in the water to see if it floats.

I have yet to see any real world examples where someone has shown that a non-weather sealed camera failed in a manner that would be covered under a weather sealed warranty. If you show me a real world situation like that then I will eat crow.

Again. Why? In real world situation with real consumers, I don't think they would simply pour water on their non weather sealed gear just to see if it still works.

Did you look at the link I provided to Digital Revs test of two non-weather sealed cameras to see just what abuse they are able to take ?

Feel free to try that on your own gear. Most of us want our gear to last longer than the time needed to shoot a YouTube video.

Daniel , specifically mentioned Kai and Digital Rev's testing of the E-M5 { I guess that is a valid scientific test as it is  Olympus gear } . I simply pointed out another video taken by the same folk showing what lower end non-weather sealed gear can survive { which is obviously a seriously flawed joke as it wasn't high end Olympus gear :-)} , pretty much all the abuse he gave these cameras would not be covered by any warranty irregardless of maker or level of kit . I never suggested he tried that with his gear

The point is not how durable the E-M1 or any claimed weather resistant cameras is , I have no doubt that the E-M1 is more durable than the cameras in the video and as good as many other high grade equipment from others. The point is what Olympus will consider is covered by warranty and the gotchas in the small print make this very obvious.

I certainly do not blame Olympus for this all the makers have the same gotchas otherwise idiots would be doing totally outrageous stuff to their cameras then claiming on the warranty. The fundamental issue here is the difference between weather "resistant" and weather "proof" and what the makers definitions of what is and is not covered by warranty

I dare to run tap water on my 12-40mm to clean it because the spec says it's weather sealed. And it is.

The spec doesn't say its weather sealed its says it is "splash proof" which is exactly why things like running under the tap etc are not covered by the warranty. I am not saying that the E-M1 does not have excellent build quality and weather resistance my point is only in relation to what will be covered by warranty
