For a wedding photographer who sometimes takes photos in light drizzle because he has to (the bride wants the location photos and sometimes a few drops start coming down, so okay to keep shooting photos, and then it increases to light drizzle), weather sealed cameras are a must, to protect expensive valuable equipment. The pro Nikon cameras have weather sealing. Not a gimmick.

Once it starts to pickup in rain, the bride usually heads indoors, to protect her dress from getting too wet.

Photographers will pick weather sealed if it fits their occupation. Consumer may just save money and go with a lower cost model if that is all they need, and use less when it rains.
