Re: Weather Sealing is a Gimmick.

Consider yourself lucky that you've suffered no failure/damage when leaving non-weather sealed kit out overnight in adverse conditions. That you are leaving that kit out, in preference to your weather sealed kit, only makes sense if the telescope you connect to is not weather sealed, thus invalidating any warranty. I guess it isn't, otherwise your choice of kit makes no sense whatsoever.

None of my kit claims to be weather sealed, so I take care not to use it in wet conditions and, where there is a risk of condensation, I take care to let kit warm up before exposing to humidity indoors. As an enthusiast photographer, with limited interest in wildlife, the additional expense of weather sealed kit is not justifiable.  However, for a professional or an enthusiast crawling around in fields to catch wildlife then making sure all outdoors kit is weather sealed would be, at the very least, highly desirable, if not essential.   Weather sealing, given the additional expense, if a gimmick, is unlikely to be a commercial success.  For people who do not need it, a waste of money for sure. For people who buy weather sealed kit and then don't need or use it, 'more money than sense' springs to mind
