Weather sealing isn't a 'trick' - it is actual engineering designed to make cameras/lenses less likely to fail under wet conditions.

You can argue that they overcharge for it - but it does work, exactly as advertised.  It's up to the consumer to decide if it's worth it.

Olympus has routinely demonstrated their cameras functioning while pouring water on them.  It doesn't mostly or occasionally work - it does it every time.
