Re: Weather Sealing IS a Gimmick.

So, when I dropped my weather sealed Olympus lens into three feet or so of salt water a few years ago, it was a gimmick that it has continued to work after being retrieved from the sea bed ?

When I fell into a deep mountain stream many years ago while wearing a Contax G2 on a waist belt it was a total write off, but it wasn't weather sealed.

You seem to be more concerned with warranties than the practical benefits of sealing.

And as someone who lives in a wet climate where it rains around half the days in the year on average, and significantly more in the mountains nearby, weather sealing provides extra peace of mind when my cameras gets really wet.

It's a bit like air bags in your car.

Are you likely to use them? Hopefully not.

Will they always save you from injury ? No.

Would you rather have them than go without ? Yes.

There are no guarantees.
