These two statements from the Olympus bulletin are in absolute contradiction to each other. Guess which one will win in a warranty claim situation.

"Its durable magnesium alloy body, and weather-resistant seals and gaskets block RAIN, snow and dust for use in harsh environments."

"Product damage caused by sand or LIQUID contamination will void the original warranty and any extended warranties if applicable. In most cases Olympus service will not be able to repair the camera. In these situations, the camera would be deemed beyond reliable repair and returned without servicing."

They say that the gaskets will "block RAIN, snow and dust for use in harsh environments". They don't say "help with" or "deter". They say "block". However, they render that statement null and void by saying if liquids get in the camera your warranty is void.

That is the definition of a gimmick.

"In marketing language, a gimmick is a unique or quirky special feature that makes something "stand out" from its contemporaries. However, the special feature is typically thought to be of little relevance or use. Thus, a gimmick is a special feature for the sake of having a special feature."
