Weather Sealing is a Gimmick - Or Not.

I do not believe weather sealing to be a gimmick.

What I do believe is that some people will want it, some will not want it and others will deride it. The first two are a personal choice, always a good thing. The last is insecurity, nothing more.

I have weather sealed cameras and lenses, and I have many more lenses and a few cameras that do not have it. I did not purchase my cameras or lenses solely based on whether they do or do not have weather sealing, I bought them for what they can do, the images they can produce.

That said, I live in a climate with snow, and have not had any issues with the "weather sealed" cameras (E-5 and E-M1) I own being damaged by the weather, nor any of the weather sealed lenses. But then, I have never thrown or dropped either into any body of water.
