Just so much not right in this post . . . .

Ok. So let us know what you think is wrong about it.

I can tell you what is wrong with it: it's the horrible logic that goes like this:

"Because I have used a non-weathersealed camera under some wet conditions without problems, then all weathersealed cameras are a gimmick."

It's crap logic, plain and simple.

You are right. That is Cr@p logic. However, that isn't what I said. I said that non-weather sealed cameras are more weather resistant than you would think.

No, you said it's a gimmick. It's right there in the thread title.

In addition I said that the amount you pay for a weather sealed product is not in proportion to the situations that it covers.

The cost vs. benefit analysis is what makes it a Gimmick.

The cost vs. benefit analysis might suggest it's not worth the cost, or that it's value is oversold. Fair enough (though I might disagree). This is not the same thing as saying it's a gimmick, which implies that it's a feature of little value beyond attracting attention.

The value of features like IBIS, weather-sealing, PDAF, sweep panorama etc. has always been a reasonable debate topic in this forum, but few people suggest they are "gimmicks". They are merely features that are more valuable to some people than others.
