Some love for the NX2000
1

So, I am in no doubt that the NX1 and NX500 are amazing cameras, but a local online retailer was selling off some NX2000s at a give-away price and I bought one as an "upgrade" for my NX200.

The NX2000 has two features that I thought I could really use: a touchscreen and wifi.

The touchscreen is great, especially the touch-focus-shoot function. But the command dial/button is much more usable and effective that the reviews gave it credit for. It makes it very simple and easy to select and change the key parameters in each shooting mode. The whole combination of touch and physical controls works very well, and it's a pity in a way that Samsung didn't make more it.

Wifi is also excellent, with great features and reliable operation. Focus peaking, electronic spirit level, etc. are all real bonuses over the NX200, too.

The thing I didn't expect was very different Jpeg image quality - resolution is the same as the NX200, of course, and noise levels seem pretty similar, with the usual Samsung excessive noise reduction, but the colour balance on the NX2000 is much nicer, I think. I could never get the NX200 to be quite right, despite a lot of tweaking, but it seems easier to get the NX2000 to generate a natural richness of colour that are much closer to the old Olympus dSLR I had, and which is always my standard for well-sorted jpgs.

I am only a casual user, taking family and travel photos, so 28MP and 15fps aren't very meaningful for me. Getting nice looking images easily is my thing and all in all, the NX2000 seems quite under-rated on that basis.
