You stated: "you should use a tripod". that's an absolute statement.

Jonathan,

Here in my opinion is the crux of the issue "Should" is not an absolute. I should have taken the train but I took a plane. She "should" is an opinion. It is not must, must is an absolute.

There is no wiggle room. In other words, you were stating for all macro shots a tripod should be used.

I clarified my point in the next post, I agree not all macro shots need a tripod, some do some don't. Taking pictures where a slow shutter is needed, a tripod helps.

Example, with this meteorite picture, the flash was causing a reflection, so I needed to use a tripod.

This is obviously incorrect. There are literally thousands upon thousands of macro shots taken where a tripod would not have improved the image in any possible way. Conversely there are macro shots that would have been missed if a tripod was used. My issue is not with the use of a tripod for macro shots. My issue is with your assertion that a macro shot must be taken with a tripod.

I never said MUST and I think we are in agreement. I just didn't like the snarky response. In this case, we both produced valid points without snarky responses.

Taken from an MMA article and I think it applies on DPR:
"My point is, we all do this. And we feel entitled to do it, because we think we’re smart people with smart opinions. If we also happen to be paying customers of the thing we’re opining about, then forget it. How obnoxious we feel entitled to be is directly proportionate to how much money we’ve spent." - Ben Fowlkes
