Hey WilbaW,

Here's one of my macros spider shots. I used my 450D with a 60mm macro lens, f16, 1/160. The spider was pretty small and I cropped this one quite a bit. But regardless of the shot I tend to be always on the soft side. My ladybug shots lack that fine edge I see on stuff by imqqmi and others. I've gotten a little better results when I use my of camera flash but still nothing like I've seen around. I guess it's not that big a deal, when I get big hopefully I can get a big boy camera.

I basically use DPP to edit all my pics, I don't have photoshop or anything with stacking software.

As LV explains, you're losing some sharpness due to diffraction.  However most macros can handle a LOT of sharpening.

It looks like the photo might be a little front-focused as well.  I like to shoot bursts and pick the best.

I'd also look into diffusing the flash more.

And remove any filters if you're using one.

Good luck,

It takes a while to become proficient.
