Perfect for my needs
1

On my last dive trip to Indonesia in 2010 I used Tough 8000 in an Ikelite housing with Ike strobes, and a Sony miniDV camcorder in a Gates housing, total weight about 15 pounds.  I've bought a new U/W rig with 2 cameras and new flash and video light, total weight 5 pounds.

I wanted another camera easy to grab for land and on the boat for a 12-day live-aboard trip this year and the TG-3 was my pick, since I didn't want`to haul around my OM-D E-M1 and lenses.

My two favorite features are Microscope Mode, with macro shots as close as 1 cm, and GPS.  Instead of having to take a separate GPS, now I can just take a photo on the boat at each dive site, and date, time, and location are all in the EXIF data.

Also, when I take it on land excursions, I don't need to worry about getting it wet.

I've been using Olympus cameras since the OM-2 film camera, and digital ones since 1998.

As an aside, I have 7 Li-50B batteries for the Tough 8000 rated at 925mAh versus 1350mAh for the TG-3.  Contacts for both are in the same place, voltage ratings are 3.6 and 3.7, length and width are the same within a small fraction of 1%.  The 92 is about 25% thicker than the 50, but with a small mod, the 50's could be used with about 2/3 the capacity.  Glue a plastic shim to the side of the 50 on the lens side 1.4 to 1.5mm thick, and the latch will hold it in place.  Without he shim, a small shock could knock the 50 loose from the latch.  So if you have a stock of Li-50B's, recycle!
