Macro Lens vs Diopter for M4/3 camera

I'm planning on buying an Olympus OM-D E-M5 camera with the Olympus underwater housing before an upcoming trip to Australia and the great barrier reef. The kit comes with a 14-42mm lens, and I'm pondering adding either the 60mm macro lens and/or a wet macro diopter. I'm wondering what the real difference is between these methods for shooting macro underwater.

One obvious benefit of the 60mm macro lens is that I could use it above water as well. One obvious benefit of the diopter is that I could remove it during the dive if a blue whale comes by and I want to shoot wide(r) angle. But I'm not really clear on the difference in image quality and how they actually compare performance wise.

So, what important points am I missing? What would you buy?

Thanks for your help!
