Canon T3/1100D exposure meter problem

Hello,

I have had this T3 for about 3 years. Yesterday I noticed that my pictures were all underexposed. After more research I found this:

  • Exposure meter seems to think there is a flash
  • Both onboard and external flash exposure is basically correct
  • Live View exposure is correct

I thought maybe the hot shoe was broken or something related, and I've attached two pictures of the hot shoe. There is only one little pin on the right side, the left side has a hole. I'm not sure if this is normal, or if there should be a pin on both sides.

I've also attached a series of pictures to show how the camera wants to expose. I switched to center-weighted metering, shot it P mode with auto ISO.

No flash - P Mode - just click - exposed ok, but histogram is not centered.

Same settings as above - No flash - P Mode - just click - exposed dark, but histogram is not centered.

Same settings, but with pop-up flash - histogram looked pretty good.

Same settings, External flash (YN468-II) pointed up at white ceiling, histogram looks good, maybe a little over exposed.

Same settings, no flash, using Live View - Exposed correctly with live view meter.

Does anybody have any suggestions? I think the light meter is just fooled into thinking there is a flash. I have had it be somewhat variable, but most of the time it thinks there is way more light than there actually is.

Thanks,

Adam
