Re: Android phones with optical zoom?
Do you have samples to prove this?
I don't notice any major image quality differences between my Android phone and my $350 compact camera, except the camera has zoom, and autofocuses faster (important for sports).
Issue with Samsung Android cameras and phones is excellently described at http://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3789127
All Samsung Android devices have the same stupid noise reduction that yields devastated images. All Samsung cameras have the same or similar 1/2.3'' microscopic sensor that even though is BSI sensor, thanks to Samsung algorithms will yield the worst image of all cameras you own.
Thanks to Samsung it is questionable if camera will obtain Android 5 and it looks like Samsung does not support raw images in Android 5.
You do not see "major image quality differences between your Android phone and your $350 compact camera" so you will buy new Android device with worse image quality? Galaxy K Zoom does not even have own forum on xda = it is beyond irrelevant.
Do you think that Galaxy K Zoom is camera with free Android? Android part is most of the price of this device and rest is camera = camera is lowest quality possible.
Note that if you want to use third party camera apps with Galaxy K Zoom they will not work with hardware shutter and will not integrate nicely.
Also Samsung product presentation is very misleading, probably violates consumer laws.
Sample images are on xda forum for Galaxy S4 Zoom.
I owned a lot of Samsung Android devices (including Galaxy camera), I can tell that by buying these things you steal from your family, I have it because I have it free from employer.
PS:
On xda forum I discovered link to image quality comparision tool http://www.gsmarena.com/piccmp.php3?idType=2&idPhone1=5447&idPhone2=6210&idPhone3=5125
there can be compared cameras image quality similar as on dpreview - select there scaled to 12MP to make all images the same size and you will se that K Zoom is the worst camera available (worse than S4), it is caused surely by very dark and inquality zoom lens as I thought. Samsung lens on these cameras also exhibit extreme distortion, vigneting and chromatic aberation.
