My educated guess still is that the problem has got something to do with the initialization of the card.

I'd wondered about that. I also wondered whether it might be a difference between USB 2 and USB 3. The (reachable) USB sockets on the front of my PC are USB 2, whereas the (unreachable) USB sockets on the back are USB 3, so I always plug the camera into the front of the PC. About 60% of the time I get a dialog telling me that the card needs to be scanned for errors, and about 5% of the time (maybe less) I'm told that it needs to be formatted. In both cases the standard dialog pops up seconds later.

As for copying files to the PC, there isn't usually a problem except occasionally when I've taken more than 100 on one day. But if I attempt to move the files to the PC, this usually causes the PC to 'forget' the USB connection, so I switch the camera off and back on again. (Yes, I know it's not a good idea to move rather than copy - it was an experiment to try to identify what was going on.)

So, it could be to do with intiialisation, or the speed of the card, and perhaps the latter could be caused by the different speeds of USB 2 and USB 3.

I'd be interested to hear other people's thoughts on the latter. In the meantime, since I'm running short on USB sockets, I've got a 7-port USB 3 hub on the way from Amazon so I'll be able to report on whether that makes a difference.

My NX200 firmware is version 1.18.
