Thank you for the updated comparisons and related analysis.

As with your original comparison, for virtually all of your shots, I find the greater DOF with the smaller sensor desirable (“better”). I find that to be true in most of my general purpose photography as well. For the vast majority of photos, I would prefer more, not less, DOF. I am quite certain I have deleted many more images for lack of DOF rather than too much DOF! Even in your examples with the berries and similar, where one objective is subject isolation, more DOF is usually desirable, especially if it is possible to position the background in the relatively far distance (and hopefully find a reasonable smooth background). The Oly lens design helps us there with the close focus ability, enabling us to get very close the subject, thus decreasing the relative distance lens to subject and increasing the relative distance lens to background… that should help isolate most subjects.

Some of your subjects are static. For those, in the very near future, we should be able to obtain detail similar to that made possible by the D810 AND benefit from the greater DOF provided by the smaller sensor, creating images that some might consider superior to those the D810 can produce. We shall see…
