G7x can now be had on ebay for $500. That will be a obviously a bigger step up than s120. S120 can now be had for $300 or less.

Is ebay is a safe way to buy cameras vs. the big stores? I've used ebay for smaller purchases, but cameras are pricey.

Thanks.

There are a few reputable sellers selling the G7X on eBay at these prices, but keep in mind that these are gray market/import models and thus, will not carry the manufacturer warranty.  If anything goes wrong, you will need to ship the camera back to the seller in China and rely on them to replace/repair your camera.  Despite being extremely creful/gentle with my cameras, I've had issues with all of my Canon compacts within the first year, including an SD870 (LCD), S95 (lens, twice), G7X (automatic lens cover), and G1X Mark II (flash) and thus, I have been hesitant to buy without warranty.  It may be worth the gamble to save $200, but just wanted to mention that so you can make an informed decision.

Now as for the G7X itself, I think that's the way to go if you want a pocketable upgrade to the S90.  The S120 is faster and high ISO shots are a little cleaner, but overall IQ is actually a slight step back imho.  The G7X color reproduction pales compared to the S90 imho, but running a RAW file through DxO even at default settings produces some really nice results.  The G1X Mark II is a great camera also if you don't mind something non-pocketable.  Great JPEGs, great lens (seems to be some QC issues there as 1 of the 3 I had had a terrible lens), and allows for lower ISO usage in the same ambient light compared to the G7X (due to the larger sensor).
