I could be way off base, but do you have the following set on:

AF w/ shutter button during (movie camera symbol).

To get to that setting switch to video mode and press the menu button. Should be the 3rd setting on the first tab. Page 157 of the manual I'm looking at from here:

You should be able to hear your lenses change focus when you half press the shutter button.

Also have you checked where your AF point is set to in movie mode?
