Rear control pad buttons on the XT-1?

I've seen people mention that Fuji will replace the rear control pad buttons (at my cost), but I am wondering if this is actually true or some internet myth. This is one thing that still really bothers me on my early SN XT-1 and I am really not interested in the hack/home remedy method of putting goop on the buttons to extend them.

I had the light leak issue addressed early on, but during the winter here, I really notice to mushy and somewhat recessed position of the buttons ever more and would be willing to pay a nominal fee for Fuji to replace them, but I have never seen an actual acknowledgment from Fuji that they have indeed addressed this issue and whether they would replace them at the customers cost.

Can anyone confirm this and/or share their experience?

Thanks,

DV

Have you contacted Fuji directly to ask? If they say no, then no is no.

Past that sell your XT-1 and re-buy it

OR wait for the Xpro-2 (as rumored on Fuji rumors) later this year and then sell your XT-1.

My XT1 is a very early copy and had a huge light leak

While waiting to have it fixed I found the rear pad too mushy and put pieces of Gaffer on the 4 buttons

Then sent to Fuji foe light leak

Came back within 2 days with the light leak fixed and the rear butons of the pad no longer mushy you can now feel the click at the end of the pressure, without any acknowledgment of Fuji and no notice they took care about it...

Works perfectly now

Having used the X-E2 for nine months, with its excellent raised buttons, I was not particularly impressed with the buttons on the X-T1 bought used / mint in October. Having to poke my fingers into the button recesses wasn't my idea of good design, and as I had no need of most of the bells & whistles, I sold it last week. The locking ISO wasn't my idea of fun either.

Happy again with my X-E2 (and X-A1) and take photos instead of fretting over camera controls ..

Yes. I have an XE2 as well and I love the feel of the buttons. The other thing I hope they address on the upgrade of the XT-1 is the rear dial. It is a bit too recessed and I feel like I really need to push my thumb in there to get to it.

I guess I will call Fuji, but wanted to see if anyone here had any experience.

Crazy enough, I thought of buying another XT-1 and just selling this one, as otherwise it really is a perfect camera for my needs. While I know there is a lot of opinions regarding the value of the silver model, I would probably go in that direction, as I really like the look and the extra money is not that big a deal, thankfully.

Sounds fine, but I would not count on the Silver version of the XT-1 to hold any additional value on the used market. It is the same exact camera as the black finish in every way.

Paying $500 more for a paint job IMO is not a smart investment when you can use that money on a lens. Imagine the current cost of XYZ fuji lens with an additional $500 discount. Maybe get that carbon fiber tripod for $100.

I guess if money is no object and $500 is the same as $5 with a couple zeros so be it.

It's a quiet fix. I sent my camera in stating that I wanted the light leak fixed and also mentioned the rear buttons not being responsive. The rear buttons came back noticeably easier to push but it was not mentioned on the return packing slip.

The new rear buttons make a huge difference because I like to use them for moving the AF selection.

I haven't decided as to whether I would get the silver or not, but the resale value would not enter the equation for me. It's a $300 difference, not a $500 difference and I already have three carbon fiber tripods of different weights/sizes along with a carbon fiber monopod.

I actually think it would be easier to read the while lettering off of the black dials on the all black version, but I am concerned that I would get an old stock item and be back in the same place. I would have to go buy it in person to check the buttons and make sure I got one that meets my requirements.

Fuji Canada has replaced mine. There is a $79 service fee in Canada. I heard some people in other countries got it replaced for free.

In any case the service is real and there are significant differences after getting them replaced.

Fuji UK replaced the rear pad buttons on my X-T1 without charging. But I had to be persistent and fairly forceful before it happened. I bought one of the early releases. I had the light leak and very poor and mushy rear pad buttons. I sent the camera in for the light leak and asked for the rear pad to be fixed at the same time. When the camera was returned the light leak was fixed and the buttons were as bad as before. It took another return to Fuji service before the rear pad was fixed. Now I couldn't be more pleased with the camera. Especially after the 3.0 firmware upgrade.

Hmmm. I sent mine in through a Canadian retailer. He seems to think it will be a warranty repair. We'll see what happens. It's been gone for two weeks, I'm hoping it comes back fairly soon.

I am looking at the Fuji X system....especially the X-T1; however,

could you explain what is '' the locking ISO '' difficulty !
Fuji put a lock on the ISO dial, so a button on the dial has to be depressed before the ISO can be changed.

Apparently it caused the sky to fall and the sun to fail to rise for a lot of people. There is an aftermarket disk designed to "solve" this issue
Thanks for the info !
Seems very minor as a ''difficulty '' !

Finally got around to calling Fuji in the NJ location:

1100 King Georges Post Road, Edison, NJ 08837

(800) 659-3854

The person is pro camera service told me that while they are offering this service option in other countries, they are not offering it in the US at this time. Has anyone in the US had a different result?

Very odd and inconsistent on Fuji's part. Kind of disappointed.

Since I am from Europe I cannot offer you any information on availability of the exchange service in USA but I can tell you that the new buttons are indeed better but they still are not great. Maybe that helps you to accept the buttons as they are.

I would take any bet that the buttons, wheels and locks will be something they improve on the T2. Now everybody tells you this is no big deal but as soon as the T2 does it right everybody will ask you how you could still be using the T1 with those tiny little hard to find recessed ... ;-)

Hi,

I wrote to Fuji uk explaining that I was not happy with the rear D pad buttons on my X-T1 about 6 months ago. They replaced with the new version buttons FOC.

Brilliant service
